WorldConnect Tree Administration

May 2nd, 2007 by Jamie

Wanted to let you know that we’re taking the new WorldConnect Tree Administration tools out of beta, and they will replace the old tools as soon as all of our FAQs and help documentation are updated.

You guys have given us *great* feedback on the Tree Administration tools that has resulted in tools that are cleaner, easier to use, and have useful new features, such as:

  • the Manage Post-ems tool to see all Post-ems added to your tree and remove any that aren’t accurate
  • administering all of your trees from a single login rather than entering separate user codes
  • the Upload Meter to know how quickly your GEDCOM upload is progressing
  • for users with multiple trees, a Save as Default option for your tree settings, so that new trees you upload to WorldConnect will get your preferred settings

Again, we’re grateful for your testing and feedback on the new Tree Administration tools. If you have any other concerns or questions about these new tools, you can leave comments on this post or visit the WorldConnect Suggestions Board.

Next I would suggest that you encourage List Administrators to publicize the daylights out of this new tool on all the mailing lists and encourage subscribers to visit their individual Tree Administration page and clean up the duplicate or outdated GEDCOMS. It’s a great season for Spring Cleaning!

I think this would be an excellent chance for everyone to update the e-mail addresses attached to their tree information. It is so very frustrating to try and contact a tree poster and find that the e-mail is invalid, making it impossible to exchange information.

When is the very old, very outdated, very ugly “home page” for family trees (http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/) going to be updated?

I am trying to find out how I can move my free family tree at Ancestry.com to somewhere else. As I understand it, as of March 2008, if you have a free tree you will not be able to use it.

Will someone help me do this – I have tried and tried – it’s just not happening!! I cannot afford to keep it where it is – I need to move it so I can afford to keep it.

    Any suggestions out there?

Please help me – thank you – Linda in NC
